There are literally only a few hospitals in the US that have the capability to run the full battery of autonomic testing fortunately, the majority of (POTS) patients rarely need all of these tests. There is a long list of other autonomic-related testing that may or may not be done depending on the patient's symptoms and the facility's resources. Your doctor can then look at the time when you noticed your symptoms. The Holter monitor can record heart rate and rhythm when you feel chest pain or symptoms of an irregular heartbeat (called arrhythmia ). The "gold standard" test for POTS is the tilt table test, which you may see in some places also referred to as HUTT test. Holter monitoring gives doctors a constant reading of your heart rate and rhythm over a 24-hour period (or longer). However, a holter or ambulatory event monitor in and of itself is not sufficient for a diagnosis of POTS or other autonomic disorder to be made.
